University of Calgary Health Policy Program

The health policy unit in the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary has wide-ranging research with current programs investigating the organization and financing of health care, the rates of return on health promotion and population health initiatives, and appropriate public policies aimed at reducing the burden carried by families of persons with disabilities. Working closely with those active in the Social Policy Program, the Health Policy Program also examines ways to improve the health status of vulnerable populations, including the poor, the homeless and persons with disabilities. Through the health policy team Mike worked with people with disabilities and their family caregivers to create digital stories about the impact of COVID-19 policies on the disability community. These stories were used as knowledge translation tools to help policy makers become more aware of the sweeping impact of COVID-19 policies on the daily lives of those with disabilities.
